Girls Sexually Harassed In Himachal Pradesh Orphanage

Six girls, aged between 11 and 18, have alleged that the staff at the orphanage in Himachal Pradesh, where they live, has been sexually harassing them.

According to a source, the girls

“used to feel sleepy soon after having dinner and remained drowsy till late the next morning. The girls said they felt something wrong had happened with them at night.” A clerk, a cook and a sweeper have been accused.

The cops who are investigating the matter have got their hands on CCTV footage. However, according to a source who wishes to be anonymous,

“There are three CCTV cameras in the child protection home, but police could only get a single day’s recording. The staff said the cameras were out of order.”

The issue came to light when a 15-year-old inmate of the orphanage complained to the head that she had been sexually harassed. Following this, all the 33 girls were counselled, and six of them admitted to having been harassed. In all likelihood, more girls were also misbehaved with.

FIR has been lodged against the accused under section 354 A (punishment for sexual harassment) of the IPC and Section 12 of POSCO Act. The three girls, who have been medically examined, will be presented at a court hearing today to take matters forward.

Are we really not safe anywhere? What is even more shocking is that it is simply being a female that makes us sexual objects. There are so many cases of young girls who have not acquired sexual maturation, being abused. How does one sexualise a body as nascent as that? There has to be something really sick in the minds of these men who violate young girls this way.
