A seven-year-old was murdered after being raped allegedly by a relative in Kerala’s Kollam. The body of girl who went missing on Wednesday was found in a rubber estate in a rubber estate in Kulathupuzha, some 60 km from state capital Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.
The girl went missing yesterday after she left for her tuition class in the morning. Her parents got worried when she didn’t return home. They reported the matter to the police who launched a search operation and found her body.
According to the police, the girl’s mother had asked Rajesh to take her to the tuition centre. The police have scanned the CCTV camera footage from near a junction where the child was last seen with Rajesh. They took Rajesh into custody and during interrogation, he confessed to raping the girl and strangling her to death, the police said.
The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which has taken a suo motu case, has directed Kollam Rural SP and District Child Protection Unit Officer to submit a report within 15 days.
Rajesh has been booked under Sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and relevant sections of POCSO.
