Released back in 2016, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones are finally starting to receive Android 8.0 Oreo update for Indian users. Samsung had already started rolling out the Oreo update in the United Kingdom for these handsets last month.
The Android Oreo update to Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge brings firmware version number G930FXXU2EREM and G935FXXU2EREM and weighs 1.4GB size which is expected from a major software upgrade. It also brings all the Oreo features including the Experience U.I 9.0 on top
You can check its availability on your device by going to Settings > Software updates. It is recommended to back up your back before proceeding with the update. You are also recommended to use a high-speed data or Wi-Fi connectivity to download the update.
The Galaxy S7 features a 5.1-inch 16:9 Super AMOLED display that has Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection on top. On the S7 Edge, you get a taller 5.5-inch display that has 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution and 76.1% screen-to-body ratio. The Galaxy S7 is powered by an octa-core Exynos 8890 SoC, whereas the S7 edge uses either the Snapdragon 820 chipset or an Exynos 8890 processor depending on the market. Both these smartphones pack 4GB of RAM and are available in 32GB or 64GB storage configurations. The S7 Edge additionally comes in a 128GB storage option which released only in some markets. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were initially launched with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out-of-the-box.
Just like how these phones come with the same amount of RAM, they even offer the same imaging prowess. Both the S7 and S7 edge sport a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, while at the front they offer a 5-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. Under the hood, the S7 packs a 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery, whereas the latter is powered by a larger 3600mAh battery. These smartphones are even IP68 certified against dust and liquid. Connectivity-wise, both these handsets offer dual-SIM support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n ac, Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm audio port. Additionally, the smartphones also have Samsung Pay support.
Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge: Price in India
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is currently available for as low as Rs.27,800 on Amazon. On the other hand, the Galaxy S7 Edge 32GB variant is currently available for around Rs.35,900 on Samsung’s official website. If you require more storage and wish to go for the 128GB variant, you will have to spend around Rs. 43,900. Other e-commerce websites, Samsung stores and retail outlets are subject to have some variation in the final prices of these handsets.
